  • Please tell me how you joined Tokyo Belt.

In my previous job, I was a sales assistant at a flexible cable (*) manufacturer. In addition to assisting sales staff, I responded to inquiries from customers, entered order data using the sales management system, and created documents such as estimates and delivery notes.Due to her husband's transfer, she decided to move from the Kansai region to the Kanto region and decided to retire, but she was looking for a new job because she wanted to work somewhere else where she could utilize her sales experience.I decided to join Tokyo Belt because the skills I had cultivated in my previous job matched the job offer at Tokyo Belt.

*Flexible...Flexible joint.A type of industrial part.

  • Was there a gap after joining the company?

My daily work flow was basically the same as my previous job, such as receiving inquiries from customers, inputting data into the sales management system, and creating documents, so I didn't feel particularly confused.I think I was able to adapt to the job more smoothly than someone with no experience as a sales assistant. Also, since my previous job involved flexible materials, I was familiar with the names of the materials, which may have made it easier for me to transition into the job.
However, there were some aspects that were different from my previous job.Of course, I thought there would be some differences between trading companies and manufacturers, but the variety of products available was more than I expected. That surprised me.When I first joined the company, I received various materials related to products from my boss, my senior colleagues, and the sales staff at the same branch, and I gradually learned by reading them in my free time.
Unlike when I was a manufacturer, when I mainly received inquiries about my own products, I have many opportunities to be asked a variety of questions by customers, probably because I am a trading company, and I sometimes feel that they expect me to have a wide range of product knowledge. When I don't understand something I've been asked, I end up asking the sales person, supplier, or manufacturer, but I'm working hard every day to be able to respond to inquiries on the spot as much as possible.

  • How do you balance it with childcare?

The scheduled time is 17:30 pm, which is relatively early, so I have plenty of time to pick up my child from the nursery school. We also have a remote work environment in place, so if my child becomes unwell or the nursery school is closed, I consult with my boss and work from home.During the state of emergency, in order to reduce the number of people working at the office, all office employees worked from home in shifts and took turns working from home.Currently, I usually come to the office to perform my duties, but in the event of a sudden closure, etc., I will be available for consultation. It's tough being at home, though.Even in such an environment where a child shows an interest in the computer and touches the mouse without permission (lol), I think I'm able to work on it without much of a drop in performance.

  • Message to everyone thinking about joining the company

You don't need to have industry knowledge or experience as a sales assistant. You can learn it little by little as you work, and if you don't understand something, your boss or senior colleague will explain it to you, so there's no problem at all.Transactions such as estimates and orders are simply entered into a dedicated sales management system, so if you can type on a keyboard, you will have fewer problems with tasks that require a PC.However, I don't just sit quietly at a PC processing data; I also interact with many people both inside and outside the company. We will be communicating with you by phone, email, and fax, from hearing your concerns to negotiating delivery dates, so we recommend someone who is willing to communicate with a variety of people.
